Most of it(bond) is eroded by inflation and taxes, so the real return is loose change. Let me put these into simple numbers. If the bond coupon is 4% p.a., and if you're at 30% income tax and 2% average inflation, your real return will be sitting at ((4%-2%)-30%) = 1.4%. These assumption are also generous, btw. Your present value of your Bond capital return will also have eroded by inflation. So equities will still be bought and call it exuberance or optimism, maths is in the favour of equities. There has to be a war to bring this global economy down rapidly, IT IS THAT STRONG NOW.
