Yep . Even though some of those performance cars were fast in their day , if you drive one now you appreciate how far new ones have come . While old cars are cool to own and look at , they do have their practicality isssues . Especially in the example you gave .
Lose value ? This is the retrotech/pro touring area where you modify an older vehicle with late model running gear . Depending on the car , you pick something that isn't particulary rare so therefore isn't that valueable i.e not a Pacer or E38/49/55 Charger or particularly a numbers matching car . Modifying it doesn't really affect the value of the car that much .
Better brakes , modern motor and box , rack and pinion steering etc . While you retain the original looks and style ( mostly ) , you end up with a car that drives really well but still looks the part . I sort of see it as if they made that car today , that's how they might build it .
Yes , you do struggle to get back the money you spend but it's more a hobby project thing for me . Just like any hobby , you do it because you enjoy it and it usually costs you money .
