I don't know that people are against dilution per se.
Its just the way it is normally done - heaps of shares at bargain-basement prices. Which is usually and for good reason seen as a slap in the face for long term loyal holders.
Nevertheless, if substantial growth is guaranteed (as it often is not) then the short term slap is soon forgotten.
