Posters should never be silenced unless they continuously break the rules. Let the mods look after that.
Irrespective of whether or not you agree with a contrarian view, they are always useful in helping to firm up your own views. The alternative is just to have a group think, back-slapping love fest. Which helps no-one.
The ignore tool is there for a reason. It works well. Those who don't like particular views should use it rather than trying to hound people off the forum.
