What SpaceX is trying to achieve will not affect us IMO. First of all Musk has great ideas but when it comes to delivering there are often hiccups delaying things. Second, what SpaceX is trying to achieve is completely the opposite to to what SAS is doing and for a different market. From the article you quoted earlier... 1) they will try get "1-gigabit-per-second internet". Not what SAS wants, in the near future anyway. And not what SAS target customers want either. They want chat functionality and banking capability. 2) "Starlink’s internet, if the FCC approves SpaceX’s plans, could be accessed through relatively small devices that Musk said in 2015 would cost $US100 to $US300 each." The same "relatively small flat panel, roughly the size of a laptop – will … allow for highly directive, steered antenna beams that track the system’s low-Earth orbit satellites." SAS network is to be used on a $1 smartphone. And who do you think will get the emerging 3rd world market. SAS or SpaceX.
