This is pure speculation regarding uptake in electric vehicles, and purely my own estimate.

5 mtpa refers to mined spodumeme not pure lithium of course

5 Mt spodumeme at 6% = 300,000t lithium metal annually.

Assume 2027 global population is 8.2b people with same number of cars per person today would be 1.8b cars.

Assume 10% of cars become EV's = 180million EV's

Conservative 40kg lithium per EV = 7.2B kgs Li

Divided by 10 years = 720 million kgs pure lithium per year

Divided by 6% (spodumeme concentration) = 12,000 million tons of ore per annum....

Which is the same as 2,400 Pilbara minerals operations on the go at once.

Purely from EV production goals alone it sounds like undersupply.

Then you've got home storage connected to your solar, more smart devices etc etc
