In industry no matter whether it is a power station, oil rig, mining site or a glass factory, every machine has one individual source of power. Each motor the power source goes back to a sub station switch board. A cable clamp that measures current installed on the cabling connecting individual motors and machines in the substation or the control room for the whole plant. OHM and associated equipment measures current through the cable. Cables are not like a house that has power points where you can have up to 15 and plug in many different things to that circuit. Each Machine has its own cable. On large sites such as power stations they can run several kilometers, they are not allowed to be joined. BUD clamps the cables for readings of flow, all clamps can to done in substations or the control room. With temperature say in a smelter of power station boiler there are built in probes inside the boiler or smelter. These probes have been in use many decades. Have seen old power stations built in the early 50's with these probes, all go back to a control room. OHM's and sensors can be installed in control rooms well away from harsh conditions. The control rooms know exactly how the plant is running if they did not the plant cannot be controlled and would trigger a shut down. What they have not had before is being able to measure in real time the flow of energy. All can be done from the information by clamping cables in sub stations or instrumentation that are fed back to the control room.
