Was just on the phone to my fertilizer rep who is also my best mate so am able to glean fairly fresh pricing news out of the system. BIG price rises coming through post the end of December of at least A$100/t for the compound fertilizers here in WA. He is getting back to me tonight in regards to superphosphate pricing but the big mover has been sulphur prices (which affects sulfuric acid supplies/pricing and in turn affects superphosphate prices).
Potash will move up significantly too. A lot of farmer customers are now moving to hoarding mode to at least offset 2009 fertilizer liabilities and for some it is a case of insuring supply guarantees. The risk of shortages is very real even in affluent markets ...
He can't believe the wave of price rises coming through. All trade based. NO SPECULATORS driving these price rises. It is an entirely honest price explosion.
