    JQB,

"By the way, I noticed that the Greenbushes Li mine just sold for US$200M+. Can anyone compare the 2 projects?"

    Greensbushes Operations

Greenbushes is located 250 km south east of Perth and 80 km from the Port of Bunbury, a major bulk handling port.

The Greenbushes operation has grown over more than 100 years from a collection of small labour-intensive alluvial tin mining operations into the world's largest single operating tantalum and spodumene mine.

The Company's Greenbushes lease extends over an area in excess of 100 square kilometres and contains the first mining leases ever staked in Western Australia. Greenbushes is acknowledged as the longest continuously operated mine in Western Australia.

The Greenbushes orebody is a highly mineralised zoned pegmatite with a strike length of more than 3 km. The pegmatite contains zones of tantalite and spodumene.

Tantalum was first mined in earnest in the middle of the 20th century. A progressive drop in tin grades means that tin is now only produced as a by-product of the tantalum process. Tantalum hard rock operations commenced in 1992 with a processing capacity of 800,000 tpa. Milled tonnage has been increased on a number of occasions to the current processing capacity of 4 mtpa due to an increase in demand for tantalum and a fall in ore grades .

Initial development of the spodumene orebody commenced in 1983 and by 1985, a 30,000 tpa spodumene concentrator was commissioned. This was later increased to 100,000 tpa capacity in 1993/94 and again to 150,000 tpa capacity in 1996/97.

The spodumene resource is sufficient to supply high-grade products for several decades.

Tantalum and lithium are mined using conventional drill and blast, load and haul operations and the ore is processed through a 4 stage crushing circuit.

Several comminution steps are used to liberate the individual tantalum minerals and gravity separation is employed to recover the heavy valuable minerals. Magnetic, electrostatic and pyrometallurgical processing are used to upgrade the tantalum to a saleable product.

The lithium plant recovers the spodumene mineral and upgrades the product through magnetic, flotation and heavy media processing into a range of products for shipment either in bulk or bagged.

    Regards

    SP
