I find it absurd that VW would sign up a Chinese company to provide industry standard and proven battery systems on one hand and then sign up the Magnis consortium to provide new , completely unproven , non trusted battery systems with the other. Could end up with the Takarta air bag fiasco all over again. I would imagine the Chinese guys had to maintain a very tight scope of works and a technology standard accepted by VW and partners worldwide. Maybe after 10 years the cobalt free battery may exist but I bet before then the price of Cobalt will have come down to not make it worthwhile to change.
