Not sure that you can argue that shorting doesn't make SP decline.
It is an artificial process, where someone who doesn't own the stock is able to sell the stock.
Sure, at some point shorters will have to buy back, but it puts a new set of selling pressure on the stock, by punters that don't own the stock. And it is disgraceful behaviour by long term share holders who lend their stock to shorters, to the detriment of the other share holders.
That is why real estate will always beat shares in my opinion - there are less artificial practices like shorting.
Last time we had greedy, artificial practices introduced by the "smart" folk on Wall St, we had GFC.
But ASX won't do anything about it, because they have a complete conflict of interest. The ASX should be regulated by the Government.
