Howard , knew all along that he could not win . And , of course the party well and truly knew .
They couldnt just DUMP Howard , it was far too late , if the party went to the polls with Costello ..they loose ..not by as much , but they loose . The party , and many knew this ..didnt stand up to Howard originally . As time went on Howard ran with the line that the numbers would turn .Internal polling showed there was NO hope of this , It was really very amusing to read some of the c%ap posted here at that time .
As in Sport / Corporate / Politics ..the smart know when to go . So many insiders cringed at ever action Howard proceeded with in this campaign , was nothing short of a disgrace and extremely undisiplined .
Costello had no real chance of challenging , it was TOO late and with blood on the floor he could not have won . Succession planning ..Is not purely a decession for the current leader .
