To clarify
1 most but not all managed insto and super funds (read pension for super if you are foreign and dont understand the term) require a minimum level of size and liquidity for investment. The most common cut off is ASX 300
2Even within a super fund there are degrees of size. that are acceptable.The bigger market caps are less volatile and therefore considered more reliable.Your super might have a high growth option.In here would be be a percentage of stocks with high risk high reward stocks which usually would be within the all ords (top 500) However it is still up to the fund manager to decide whether to include or exclude our stock from the portfolio. ie the all ords may be a necesary but not suficient condition. So getting into the top 500 can have rewards but they are limited compared to the leap to the ASX300.There will also be rewards from managed that buy the all ords index.They will have to buy our shares proportionately to make sure we are represented.
3Entry into the all ords is on market cap only.Entry to the 300 is market cap plus liquidity and I think plus a bit of discretion.Not sure if they are still there but ISU and Netcom both had market caps lower than ours but managed to stay in the 300
4 So yes it is a good thing .The 300 would be very good and the 200 great.It is however another rung on the ladder and we seem to be going up a few.and consistently.We will get there so I welcome the news
