‘Mr McLauchlan said the Ohm base unit is installed in proximity to meters or sub meters, and uses industry standard connectors to monitor electricity, solar, water, steam, gas and other natural and built environment elements. Ohm can then wirelessly connect to other sensors allowing for a network of sensors across cities and buildings.

‘ “Buildings that lack a traditional building management system due to age or budgets, simple and straightforward monitoring using Buddy Ohm can help realise efficiencies and saving they might not otherwise have access to,” Habib Heydarian, vice president of product and engineering said.’

What are these ‘industry standard connectors’ that Mr McLauchlan mentions? And importantly can they be used in a live industrial environment?

To my way of thinking Mr McLauchlan’s description confirms that there must be some form of physical contact between the building’s electrical wiring system and the clamp of the probe. If that is the case then the question I put to taffyduke remains. Is it feasible in an industrial processing environment to shut down an electrical sub-board (that controls many of the essential electrical equipment that controls that very process of production) so it is safe for the electrician to install the probe clamps on their respective active wire(s) (what Buddy seems to describe as ‘Live’ wire in its somewhat meagre information sheet)? Because where else can an ohn probe be clamped to a particular circuit before it (the active wire) is stripped of its outer cable protection at its location behind the protective structure of the sub-board panel?

Perhaps some kind person can direct me to a schematic of the Buddy ohm system or even a few detailed images of an installed system in an industrial environment like the ones described by myself or taffyduke to dispel my doubts, at least on this technical matter.
