Shapiro appears to be caught in the headlights a bit here. I'd hazard a guess that this has blown out of proportion a bit heavier than what he intended, and likely has a manager/editor pushing for the releases with his name to them.

Secondly it appears quite likely that Ownership Matters have been pushed by AFR to conduct the review, in turn creating press for AFR. AFR pays for the research and they get the readership as a return on investment.
