I get what you are saying that its all contingent on time frames, but it sort of seems one can only be sure either way after its been confirmed (which seems kind of pointless other than identifying a possible retracement point)
I think the original question was around can you identify the type of gap prior to the confirmation of it being filled.
My thought is had support been established at the past resistance at 10.5, then (until that support is broken) you could assume the gap at 9 was a breakaway. Is that consistent with your thinking?
