Just a few notes:
- In release of 17 May, CNM state 50MW wave farm capital cost $400million, so approx $8 million/MW
From New Scientist magazine 8 December:
- Current coal technology capex approx $1 million/MW [ good to see CNM also involved in coal ]
- Current solar photovoltaics using silicon, < 20% efficiency, $2-$3million/MW. Germany [ not the sunniest place in the world ] already generating 3,000MW using this low efficiency, old technology due to subsidies.
- Near term new non silicon photovoltaics <$2million/MW
- Pres. GW Bush just kicked off a Solar America Initiative with $168million to make photovoltaics even more competitive by 2015, aim < $1mill/MW.
- hot fluid solar using flat ot parabolic trough mirrors also making great progress, capex much lower than silicon photovoltaic, can use hot fluids for night time power generation, an existing 354MW farm in Nevada desert covers 100Ha.
So CNM will be competing in near desert locations perfect for photovoltaic with CETO that is 4-8 times the capital cost/MW, and photovoltaics getting cheaper all the time.
