Taking a fairly simplistic view from a fairly simplistic person........... the PEs for many Australian companies are high, sometimes too high. Thats because in many cases the price of the share is not matched by its earnings. CSL by contrast whilst having a very high P (price) rating seems to justify the high PE by backing that up with the earnings (E) in the equation; and the lofty PE rating would seem to be in a holding pattern until the E disappoints the market. I guess it will the. have potential for a Lazarus like fall from grace. But while the earnings are maintained or increased, the high PE would seem likely to be justified. Long live the E !
