It takes a writer of fiction to come up with the genius idea of changing the y-axis scale on a graph from 16-17.8 to 0-20 to make the result look much more benign.
Maybe the sceptics could get Dan Brown to do an equivalent graph with a scale of 0-1000 to make the temperature look like a straight line.
