McCullum, writing in a column in the Daily Mail in September, had said the Australia cricket captain "missed a great opportunity to strike a blow for the spirit of cricket" by not withdrawing an obstructing-the-field appeal against Ben Stokes in a one-day international at Lord's.
McCullum said Smith "showed his immaturity" by not withdrawing the appeal for Stokes' dismissal and said "he may live to regret it".
On the eve of the three-test series between the trans-Tasman rivals in November, Smith said he "was a little bit disappointed" by McCullum's comments in England, and added: "I didn't really think it was any of his business."
