Personally I don't want to see RSG invest 1cent in the DRC no matter how cheaply they might appear to have secured interests in any resources there. The country is a complete basket case and the humanitarian crisis is escalating by the day.

I have been monitoring events in that country for a while now in a thread I started under the World Events topic. People can read through this thread for information.

And by the way the Chinese won't be coming to the rescue in the DRC if things get very bad over there, they'll just pull out. They barely support the current peace keeping mission in the country.

I've got to say I've been wanting to increase my weighting in RSG but with the way things have been going in Africa recently with the creeping nationalisations I'm becoming very hesitant to put more money in. Many states have been using the introduction of new mining laws to also go after claimed back taxes. Mali has a long running dispute with RandGold for $200million of back-taxes.

Imagine what would happen to the RSG share price if claims like that surfaced against the company. I'm beginning to trust these nations less and less. The DRC is run at the point of a gun and recently RandGold's CEO has taken aim at the Kabila tax grab using language which leaves nothing to the imagination. Esh

Earlier this week, Randgold announced that it was engaging at the highest level with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo about its new mining code which, in Bristow’s words, “seems based on the irrational premise that the state is somehow entitled to the entire net cash flow from the mines”.
