Musharraf is deemed by the US to be the only safe custodian of Pakistan's Nukes, and its only ally in Pakistan in the Afghanistan war as long as significant anti-American sentiment is ingrained in the population of that country.Maybe you're right and the enthroning of a Democrat might change that sentiment in time. But not Clinton - she has already shown herself to be in line with the policies of the Cheney cabal.
Obama would possibly be a breath of fresh air. That some change is badly needed is evident in Bush symbolically using the word "occupation" for the first time ever in Palestine in his address to Israel when he said:"the occupation of West Bank must cease". Unless that was one of his frequent slips, it implies a significant change of tack.It might just be a start.
You say Khan is too weak. Maybe, but who can beat the army without shedding heaps of red stuff? An open revolt would have resulted in huge loss of life - and the US would have had to secretly support Musharraf at all costs because of the nukes.
Democracy will come about one day, but not while Musharraf and the current US regime are so dependent on each other.
    Just cant happen..........

    cheers
