... only some of the large drugmakers were named in the story, but the biotechnology sector as distinct from the pharmaceutical sector (ie makers of drugs and pills) is included in the forecast.

You are however correct in stating that "even in bad times people will take their pills." Presumeably this also applies to diagnostics.

Hopefully, in hard times women will not risk their lives by discontinuing their cervical cancer testing. CerviScreen (the Polartechnics product applicable to the US and other first world markets) offers women a choice for self testing that was previously unavailable. This choice cannot be under-estimated.

And the markets for TruScreen (cervical cancer testing) in the developing nations would surely not be hugely affected by a recession in the US.
