Well, in fact ---- what Trump being elected --- (forget whether one likes him or not, or thinks he's crazy or not for a moment) has done is to show that the US system HAS got massive holes in it.
It is now very very frighteningly clear that the chain of command and stunning (immediate) war powers of the President of the USA completely depend on a President who is sane, rational and reasonable.
A complete nut has immediate power to launch massive strikes -- and, there is no one to stop them.
They have to have the agreement of one other person --
if that's not bad enough --
they have 'full' authority to sack that person on the spot for no reason and 'full' authority to put anyone else they like in that position - which means, the risk is - someone who will sign off on the launches with them.
Now - forget Trump - just look at the system with today's weaponry in mind -- that is a massive risk for the world - an incredible risk.
One doesn't even have to think further to that a health check for Presidential nominees as far as mental health go are feeble at best and non existent in many cases.
And, that's in a country which purportedly runs on a beloved democratic system - the home of the free etc..
So, even though war has to be confirmed by Congress within days (from memory) - there is no such safeguards for an initial strike -- and, a strike by modern weaponry using large numbers of weapons would plainly devastate the world - a minutes thought would confirm that - because the other side isn't going to be sitting around discussing the fact that there is a rogue at the helm - all they will be doing is retaliating - and, who could blame them?
