"Reject the words of Jesus if you will.
    That is your choice.
    "

I'm assuming you are taking this position just to stir wotsup and Mr G and show them that just about anything can be "proven" by selecting Biblical verses and interpretations to suit the required meaning.

However, just for your interest and because TRY is bound to fulfill it's prophecy sooner or later, I looked at the trinity claims that Jesus is ("part of") THE God.

E.g. Thomas' astonishment was that Jesus had indeed risen and was right in front of him !
He proclaimed "my" god (no capitals) not you are THE God. Quite a shock when confronted with such an event.
It was Thomas's seeing with his own eyes this resurrection that was the point of Jesus' comparing those who would not see that for themselves .. not what Thomas had exclaimed, which was just his understandable personal expression of this sudden realisation. To suggest Thomas was not astonished is to miss the whole point.

The so called "I Am" incident with the Pharisees was not a claim of Jesus saying he was God. In fact the expression translated as "I am" is not even the one used in Genesis and is used elsewhere to mean I am or I exist etc.

John was stating that the "Christ" existed before Abraham ... which is no problem for an incarnated god that is the son of God .... but certainly not a claim to be the God.
They wanted to stone him because he claimed to be greater than their Father Abraham as well as the son of God, not because they thought he was claiming to be Jehovah Himself.
That would have been no real threat and remedied with a quick trip to the looney bin with relieved sighs and much slapping on the back, all round.

The conventional trinity claim with Jesus as the 3rd aspect of the Creator God is a later contemplative "addition".
Though, note, even now it is almost always Father, Son and Holy Ghost (Spirit), not Father, Jesus and Holy Ghost.
It is to do with symbols not literal meaning.

BTW, I did check all this with the entity previously known as Jesus because "fake news" is everywhere a pernicious influence.
In fact he is sitting on a modest granite boulder just a few feet away and I can tell you the mirth and astonishment is bursting from him like a great flood as I read the transcript of this post.
At the same time, there is a look of such compassion and genuine sympathy for what has become (since about the 8th century ?) such a struggle for those drawn to the teaching and revelation he brought.
