Hi everyone, just caught the train on way home from the MMC presentation. There were a lot of people there, and not much opportunity to talk to Ken before he was whisked away. After the presentation he went to a private room with media, so no opportunity to catch up. There was only time for one question in question time and Robert Gottleibsen was the one with the opportunity.
Ken talked more about the general industry instead of PLS in particular, but was trying to get the point across about how fast the growth rate in 'new energy' is happening there, faster than our media perceive plus he spent a bit of time on the difference between brines and hard rock, especially why we are not as 'highly' priced in terms of cost as most cost curves show.
He talked a little bit about how the 'cost curve' of brines was not accurate because of the purification that needs to happen when it gets to China, plus the growing demand for Lithium Hydroxide, which adds an extra step for brines that produce Lithium Carbonate.
Basically he was calling the large Australian lithium suppliers, MIN, PLS, Greenbushes, and KDR when they get going as the overall lowest cost by the time it gets to battery grade Lithium Hydroxide.
He also stated that 5 years ago Hydroxide was only 10% of the market, now about 50% and in about 5 years would probably be around 90%.
I was able to get a quick question in before the presentation started about the resource upgrade, ie where is it??
It's very close, but market release has been delayed because they kept finding a bit extra when doing the last resource drilling, so the calculation is taking a bit longer.
IMO that sounds like we will have a decent increase in both resources and especially reserves.
This event was more about fund and media exposure, so mostly general industry stuff, just as Ken started talking about PLS in particular he was wound up for being out of time by the organisers. I'm sure he was able to get the PLS message across in the media room afterwards.
