It's not 'retirees not being means tested' that is CAUSING the problem, it is out of control and malfeasant government spending. And while were on it, if government is scratching for income then it might want to look to history that has demonstrated that when those greedy thieves REDUCE the amount of taxes they steal, their tax receipts actually increase. Believe it or not, when workers are allowed to keep more of their earnings they actually go out and spend it, OR put it towards their nest egg so they don't have to rely on government 'stealing from selective Peter to pay collective Paul' as I posted earlier. And how many of your imagined rich dole bludgers are merely in the position of having property wealth (though the appreciation of their family home over many years) but are cash poor?
In your own words 'the govt cannot afford the current expenditure' so even though they can't manage the billions they already pilfer you approve of the idea that they should be able to pinch even more so they can continue to piss it all away? It's not rocket science, more of a bad or unworkable thing is not going to change they thing, it will only make it worse.
