This MP's situation is more akin to the executive forced to travel more than he'd like to for work than the ordinary FIFO worker. People tend to self harm when they can't see an end to their situation, but by resigning from shadow cabinet and announcing he's not contesting the next election that would ease the pressure. FIFO workers tend to work in desolate places where there's pretty much the workplace and little else. I doubt they'd experience the same rate of depression if they needed to fly to a desirable place on average once every 3 weeks for 4 days on $250k per year which was this MP's situation.
