    Hey KP .

Pipelines and canals from the Gulf have long been touted . I'm not sure whether they are really that practical in reality . I would have thought it would make more sense to use that water in the top end instead . Plenty of areas up there that could use it .

I favour doing more with the water we have that's here already . Proper storm water catchment . Proper recycling . Huge amounts of lightly treated waste water go into the ocean every day in Victoria . Treatment technology has come a long way . The vast majority of this water could be treated and reused . I would rather see investment in that rather than in desalination at this stage .

We get to make use of the water we have , cleanup our discharges and use much less energy all at the same time . Classic win win .

One day in the future if we really get short of water we can always fall back on the tropical water if we really need to .

The idea of falling water from Tassie to Victoria sounds like a great idea . I fear the presentation is a bit too simplified however . It's a pity a proper study hasn't been done into to flesh out the details .
I wonder if that Tassie water could be used to generate a bit of electricity as well seeing as it has a head of 200 meters ?
