watso just came back from a short (11km) cycle ride, just to buy a single item from aldi - but a lovely autumn perth day. on the way out, watso passed a group of aged walkers - and passed them again on the way back - watso counted a dozen of them.. so obviously there is a walking group that someone can join. walking does not require anything special - indeed thongs would be good enough (lol - watso could easily go barefoot, as the likes to keep the souls (ok soles) of his tootsies nice and hard.

watso has noticed aged cyclists (from memory 55+ types) - but they are all in lycra, and want to ride expensive bikes - then they have a break at a coffee place and pay dollars for a cup of coffee - but groups like that cater for a segment of the population .

through the church, watso's mother would visit old people - take them shopping etc etc - that benefited both the giver and the receiver .

the older a person becomes, the more acute the problem of loneliness probably becomes - because it becomes harder to get out and about.

as watso's mother became older, it was her turn to get some home visits - and for a while she would walk to a park bench, where often times there was another ageing person.

as watso's mom just lived 2km away, and watso was always cycling all over the place - watso would probably drop in about 3 times a day - not for long - maybe only 10 minutes or so each time - have a cup coffee (that would be a half hour visit in the morning - and have two cups of coffee), a quick chat etc - and finally when she was in a nursing home, which was also close by - watso would do the same routine just show her what watso had bought from the shops etc
