bb, I would suggest to you or anyone in your financial situation......get some career counselling, or take some of those options you have and make the changes required to get to where you want to be.........you seem to have a lot of choices........earn $100,000 working out in WA, fly in fly out options sounds pretty good......and save the difference in salary...........then get a cheaper unit, .......your wife could work part time.......get family members to help with the child minding.......buy a property in the outer suburbs and rent it out.........after the prices drop, anytime between now and dec 08..........then in 3-5 years time when the market has turned upwards ..........you sell that property and buy you own, again out of town a bit.......group in melb advertising new homes and it costs 246pw.........
I suggest you can be away from your child when they are under 5 years old.......especially if you are doing it to look after their future............
ps my father was away most of the time until I was 7, only saw him a couple of times a year,,,,,,,,he had to do that due to a big drought....they were farmers........I never loved him any less......and dont believe I missed out on anything..........and you say your wife stays home because that what your mother did..........what a luxury.........
draw up a list and make a program of what you want, then do a list of what you HAVE to do , to get there.......
ps you cannot buy a house on $50,000 pa unless both spouses earn that amount each.
PS dont wait for the $400,000 house prices to drop back to $150,000.........it will not happen in mainstream..........might happen in drought stricken areas with no water and population of less than 3000 people
I have said enough on this matter
