Yes. Central inverters mean massive sized DC & AC cables, literally Kilometers of underground trenching, thousands of tonnes of sand, lots of earth moving equipment & because the inverters are so large, multiple crane lifts - costs for all this add up.
The O&M side - a central inverter fails it takes out say 5MW and is a very big deal to replace. If a string inverter fails - unplug it & plug in a new one. Send the broken one back to the factory.
Stick a VRFB on the end of every row like NEXTracker are proposing and 24/7 power.
This takes off & the market is enormous - a small farm of 10MW will have about 500 rows where one of these would go.
There are 20 projects proposed just in the North of Vic totalling around 1.2GW or 120 X 500 rows or 60,000 rows... 60,000 batteries
