NT Water Board met last week here in Alice Springs to finalise the West Davenport Water Allocation Plan. If you recall the 2017 Plan was rejected because it didn't mention the Mt Peake Mine.

Technically the Plan didn't have to because at that point mines were exempt from the Act ie they could draw as much water as they needed but that has changed. Then the NT Govt did independent research on the ground water resources and found that the Mt Peake reservoir was separate to others eg not related to the nearby swamp and was sustainable. The environmental licence was granted with conditions.  At the Water Board meeting the Arid Zone Environment Centre (ALEC) went after TNG's license raising many objections around the conditions. Ordinarily they would have been blocked by the NT Govt reps but politically the situation is that the NT govt has just lifted the fracking moratorium and there has been a huge public backlash. They can't afford another headline about not protecting the environment so they can't be soft on TNG at this point. It was bad timing for TNG.  ALEC had the power at the meeting and has obstructed the environmental licence process. So the Water Allocation Plan has still not been finalised and probably won't be for a while. More delays but there is the TO/CLC delay anyway.
