So I just went back and re-read the article and a few things stand out for me.
1. I think the article, or the information, has come from FAR. Why? The Journo is based in Melbourne. Far is in Melbourne. The article states: "The appointment of a committee chairman is to be announced as early as today, sources close to the proceedings say..." Who would the source be? Not WPL, they are not close to the proceedings even though it effects them. Can't imagine it was COP. So that leaves FAR.
2. I think it was done to put pressure on WPL. Stating that at the extreme WPL will have to hand over the 35%.
3. Far flagged it's preferred option of a settlement, but as per point 2, will follow through with taking the 35% if WPL won't come to the table.
4. Further confirmation it came from FAR where it notes: "whether Woodside has been right to shrug off any potential value it could lose through the Paris arbitration and to not talk to FAR about a settlement."
All just IMO, but very interesting if correct.
