Interesting thought I had tonight. There is a lot of talk about the sovereignty risk of DRC. I wonderd how the cost of production would compare between say Australia and DRC. Once capital cost are complete, what is the biggest cost of production. . ?
Answer wages or salaries of staff. This is a very simplicitic example but does make you think.
Australia has the 11th highest wages in the world with an ave salary of $54230 per year
DRC is the second lowest in the world with an ave salary of $460 per year.
For every one person you have working on a site in Australia , avz can employ 117.89 people.
Yes human rights will get chucked around, skilled workers, the old chest nut childhood labour, but the wage costs are reality. Is the productivity of one Australian 117 times more efficient than that of a person living in DRC. I wonder how strong the unions are in the DRC ? Any wonder the Chinese are all over the Congo like a rash.
For all the bleeding hearts out there talking about exploitation. Consider this. Opening a mine in the Congo is a good thing as it give the people JOBS.
