    Ha.

I am sure we differ on a lot of our beliefs. But I am not going to get too worked up about any of this...least of all insults.

Personally, I consider the Ten as pretty close to what can be relied on, though even those are subject to a lot of debate.

    The rest is local rules.

A lot of other characteristics and values presented are beneficial for humanity, such wisdom, compassion, non-violence,

control of afflictive emotions, generosity, integrity, and so on. But these cannot be legislated.

Anyway, to the subject line of the thread: about the Bible being "true".

My opinion is that both Old and New Testament have a good dose historical truth, often translated poorly, edited with different motives, and mixed with allegory, parable, and myth.

But they have much more validity and value than their score on historic accuracy.

Their value lies mostly in the presentation and teaching of moral behavior by man, and the values that should be cultivated for
human society to...um...evolve in a positive direction.

To the extent that the morals and behavior espoused therein advance human happiness, create harmony and peace, and elevate the moral condition of people, they are "true."

To the extent that the morals and behavior espoused create less human happiness and more suffering than we already have, they are "false."
    advance
