Your "problem" is not a refutation of the hypothesis that the market is controlled. The cartel would certainly have access to enough supply to overwhelm the the markets. Who do you think holds the other end of the hedging contracts of the big miners? Alan Greenspan himself said that central banks lease gold to keep the price down.
There is an enormous body of evidence that the gold market in manipulated.
