Presumably you are reading the statement "SMARTCOUGH-C-2 study remains on track to complete in the middle of this calendar year" to mean that they expect to be able to report on or before June 30th. I suspect that interpretation is far more literal and precise than justified by the words actually used.

To my mind "middle of this calendar year" would cover a time period stretching from May to August, so I suggest you don't get all suicidal if the results aren't out in June.

As you pointed out "we are outside of flu season" so the remaining subjects will take some time to recruit:

But bear in mind that we're not measuring 'flu. Most of our target conditions are not primarily seasonal, although weather and general seasonal conditions may exacerbate the symptoms or affect their incidence.
