Pear...leaders who are Muslim can be enlightened like any others. I hope we get a few in the 21st century.
I am of the opinion that Islamic culture made many good and worthwhile contributions to modern civilization.
That is, that there were secular advances that occurred under Muslim hegemony, and these tend to be underemphasized by Westerners in general.
There were also improvements in the culture and values of the peoples who adopted this religion.
But Islam has some very disturbing tendencies that undercut its value to civilization as a whole, and which in my opinion present
problems in the modern world.
In particular, it has a history of spreading its beliefs by force. Too many many adherents still believe this is OK and moral.
And in my opinion, modern Islamic societies are too intolerant of other religions, and too conservative in their adaptation to new values , to make it a religion of universal appeal to many newcomers. There seems to be a policy to overrun other countries by immigration, infiltration, and demographic population growth.
Islam is not unique in this unattractive character flaw...institutional Catholicism had this tendency for a while, though it has since matured. We can hope for the same from Islam someday.
I believe in religious freedom; but not to the extent that practitioners can ompose their set of laws onto a foreign host civil body.
As a matter of national policy, the United States requires that declarents pledge allegiance to our country, to its Constitution,
and to its laws. Of course theses pledges can vary in their sincereity by those taking the oath. But this is the basis for us to be more careful and stringent in our considering immigration policies.
Yes, Virginia, we should be more restrictive to granting entry into our country, especially to individuals whose loyalty and devotion to our country are in question. People who believe that it is OK to overthrow our government on account of their religious beliefs should not be allowed into our country, much less granted citizenship.
Yet we hear of idiotic cries about discrimination. Of course we should discriminate against individuals of a country of religion that are hostile to our society, it laws, and its traditions. These individuals should be subject to much higher levels of scrutiny.
It is only common sense.
Does anyone challenge the right of Britain or the US or Australia to restrict immigration from Germany or Japan during World War 2 ? Does this position mean that anyone though all Germans and Japanese were evil people ?
