I am sorry to hear of the death of one of your pets.

Pets do become part of the family and their passing is heartbreaking. Our cat, whereu, that my wife rescued as a kitten in 1999, passed away on 24th of May 2017. I still shed the odd tear when I think of her - fortunately in our "culture" it is OK for males to cry.

The conscientiousness - what a mouthful in one word - level of animal is a subject that intrigues me.
While reading your post my grandson's kitten came trotting up to me jabbering away in "kitten talk" and played with my feet. Then I felt something pushing up against my leg. Out Bulldog was pushing a tennis ball up against me asking for a game - I duly obliged.

Our animals seem to be able to read our moods. They are normally full of energy and quite vocal, but when we are down they become quite and generally lie quietly near us or in contact with us.

It is not only domestic animals that display empathy and altruistic behaviour. Over the years I have spent time in the African bush and have observed these behaviours in wild animals.

"But when I got to a certain level in physics or biology, there were just limits to what I could understand and comprehend.
The truths in those subjects at advanced levels were just beyond my capabilities, and these subjects are within the sphere of human reasoning."

I recall a discussion about the theories of gravity with a university physics lecturer. I told him that I had no understanding of what gravity is. His reply was something along the lines that nobody does. We may understand the mathematics and a narrative that goes with the mathematics, but no one knows what gravity really is. Richard Feynman the winner of a Nobel prize said: Nobody understands quantum mechanics.

You are truly in very good company.
