Seriously BR, don't you think changes to the building laws would make more sense than changing the way the Australian tax system works!
There is never going to be enough houses my friend, populations will continue to grow. Therefore Australia has to do much better job of using the land it has. Forget about negative gearing leave it alone!
1. Medium and High density housing is whats needed in order to open up supply. Our cities are getting bigger and we are catching up to the rest of the developed world ala Europe, Japan and New York soon enough not everyone will be unable to afford a home in this counrty and we will have to settle for an apartment or townhouse. Those are the facts.
2. The only other way is to have better infrastructure and transport such as fast trains so worker don't have to live in capital cities. Australia is decades behind the rest of the world in this regard.
