A Prius does have both technologies so I agree it would have a bigger carbon footprint the petrol/diesels. I’m confident a straight out pure EV would have a hugely smaller footprint than both.
EV’s have much less quantity of heavy steel components, lots of featherweight electronics and have a more simplistic driveline by design when you consider secondary external components to a petrol engine like fuel pumps, fuel injection systems, lube, etc. Batteries are the significant carbon pollution and that can be reduced immensely when you consider battery recycling as a second life cutting the original footprint immensely.
Electric 4WD enthusiasts may have to wait until 2020 for Rivian A1T. Cost $50,000 -$90,000
