Some south african friends of mine, always referring to stupid kaffirs, and how good everything was back home, went back for a visit after some 25 years here. They had originally come out here due to fears of civil war and massive blood shed, which did not happen (thanks to Mandela principally and FW deKlerk)
When they returned they had a completely different attitude, they realised that having apartheid and the reliance on a constant source of cheap labour did them no favours. Their relatives were still living in the colonial past and were unproductive and unsophisticated. Home was now here.
