My guess is that gxy may be interested in raising its interest in lpd, more to help block any potential take over move.
I think gxy is too interested in preserving its mutually beneficial relationship with lpd to risk it on a take over move.
That said, both gxy and lpd may be interested in a merger in time, but I think lpd would want to benefit from the exponential growth potential of lmax first.
