I would put money on
a) the hunter having just put out a slightly underperforming half yearly (to keep some in the tank so that the full year report can surprise to the upside) ... to gain strategic advantage in the takeover at a point in time when it really matters?
b) the hunted having just put everything into the half yearly so as to puff up their case for an increased offer ... may backfire come full year reporting time?
