"By forcing the local population to save rather than spend"
how can the local population save when business have to put prices up for their goods to cover the higher rates on their business loans, when landlords are forced to put up their rentals to cover higher interest rates.....I agree that higher rates deter people from getting into more debt but I can not see how it will lower the prices of every day expenses....food, fuel, rent etc etc.
