''So the correct position is - ''we do not know'' We in fact do know enough to say that the totality of the universe, life and sentience are not the effects of random events. They are not self-perpetuating or self-generating from the outset because that contradicts the laws of science.''

Nobody is saying it is random. The laws of physics are not random. Matter/energy has a defined set of attributes. Evolution is not random, natural selection, interaction of genes and environment, some species go extinct while others flourish. Human behaviour is not random, we experience, we respond, we plan....everything works on a set of natural principles. physical makeup, neural architecture, environment and so on.
