Even as a director of my own company , I have a responsibility to my employees to perform , regardless of how much I pay myself.
However high and mighty directors of public companies see themselves they still have moral obligations to carry out their roles diligently and effectively. Shareholders funds should be given the respect they deserve ,as these dollars were acquired through the same acumen that is required of directors.
