Anyways the gold price is a fair bit out of whack with inflation since 1970, gold went from $38 to $180 in 4 years , in 1974 a brand new hq holden cost $3000 so about 17 ounces of gold , now a new family sedan say $35000 or about 200 ounces of gold!

Check your calculations. Gold is now about A$1700 per ounce so your $35000 family car is about 20 ounces of gold.
