Yes my understanding is that one of the main advantages of the Scandium alloy over aluminium is that thin light panels ( like say the skin of a 747 Jumbo) are not only much stronger but are also weldable, negating the need for heavy rivets of which there are something like 1.5 million in each jumbo, weighing around 20 tonnes.
